What is the Super Bowl

The Super bowl is the annual championship game of the U.S National football League (NFL). A federation of professional gridiron football teams.

The first Super bowl was held on January 15 1967. Arising out a merger of the national football league. (AFL) It was originally called the “AFL-NFL world championship game. it was hosted in LA, California at the memorial coliseum.

The New Super Bowl Rules

Before the NFL changed the rules it was basically like sudden death when you went to overtime. So whoever got a touchdown first was going to win. The NFL playoff overtime rules changed several years ago, but Super Bowl LVIII was the first playoff game with this rule. The basics of this new overtime rule are both teams get possessions of the ball no matter if the team gets a touchdown or not which means even if you do score the other team still has a chance to win

2024 Super Bowl football

The Kansas City Chiefs knew what was going on but the San Francisco 49ers did not know what was going on. It was a hard fought battle on both sides each quarter the score got closer and closer in the 4th quarter the score was tied 22-22 resulting in a overtime. Which resulted in the Chiefs winning the game 25-22. In overtime the Chiefs won the game but San Francisco’s players admitted they did not know about the new overtime rules. Even though they had been in place for two years.

In fact, 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk via The Ringer told reporters that he didn’t realize the playoff rules were different. A lot of their players did not know what the strategy was meant to be when they went into overtime and scored.

They didn’t know what to do after that’s why many of the 49ers players were not happy about the rule change. Because if they had knew, they might have did better in the game. Which really turned the tide of the game they were playing the Kansas City Chiefs. Subsequently, they lost by a pass from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman to win the game, with 00.3 seconds left.

The Chiefs Comment About the New Rule

The Chiefs players explained they’d been talking about it all year. “We were prepared meaning locked in at the beginning when the rule changed”; and used it to their advantage. They not only talked about it in the regular season but also in training camp on how the rules were different from the regular season to the playoffs.

Every week of the playoffs they talked about the new rule; and it paid off in the end. When you put the work in you get results when you don’t it makes you want to start working harder to get to the goal.

Why the 49ers Mistake Cost Them the Game

Their coach chose to have the ball first when they basically had no strategy or any plan. They just went with the flow of the game; and right now they are regretting that choice. Rushing and going in without a plan backfired against the team after the game.

For one many of the players clearly said they did not have a strategy going into overtime so choosing to have the ball first in overtime made no sense they should have waited and analyzed the situation to build a strategy so they could possibly win the game

The overtime rules in the playoffs

If the team receiving a kickoff scores a touchdown even if they do the game can only end sooner if the team forces a safety on the teams initial possession. Both teams play for 15 minutes when both teams have got the ball. Whatever team that takes the lead will win the game it’s simple but it helps a lot of teams.
