Surprising turnaround by Wembanyama
Victor Wembanyama has proved himself. His summer league performance took a drastic turnaround in just two games. Being the no.1 pick in the 2023 draft, seeing him in action was highly anticipated. He struggled in his first game of the summer. shooting 13 and only making two. In addition, he committed three turnovers. Though he did execute good defense with five blocks, eight rebounds, and three assists. His offense wasn’t up to par.
Rather than being discouraged by his performance, Webmanyama took it as a way to grow. For instance, Victor pointed out that his conditioning was a big factor in his performance. He also admitted he didn’t know what he was doing on the court.

Game 2
In his second game, Wembanyama shot nine for 14 from the floor. He made seven of 12 free throws getting 27 points. Earning a triple-double. He also played great defense, getting three blocks and helping cut down the 19-point lead to only one.
Even with his performance, the team still lost 85-80. Victor said, “I was just getting started… I wish I could have done more… I have to keep working.”
Victor Wembanyama’s Summer League Performance showed how much potential he has in the league. But after completing his first two games, Victor had been shut down for the rest of the summer league.
Even though he won’t be playing in the league, Victor wants to remain active in basketball. “Honestly, I just want to hoop, workout, and lift,” he stated.
What’s next for Victor?
For the 2024 season, Victor will play for France in Paris. “I don’t intend to do anything else. For me, the club and the national team are as important as each other, so I have no reason not to want to win titles with my national team,” he says. Even though he won’t play in the NBA, Victor remains optimistic. He will continue to work on his skill and hopes to be drafted by the Spurs.
