As political tensions build, and the next presidential election arises, more and more marginalized people are questioning the Democrats. Despite this, white liberals have been adamant that marginalized communities should “Vote blue no matter who.”
Essentially, what they are saying is that despite political ineffectiveness, the lies, and the actively harmful policies, the marginalized communities should still vote for the democratic party. The white liberals say this as a means to the ends of “harm reduction.” They see the damage that Donald Trump and the rest of his party could do and they “Vote for the lesser of two evils.”

However, the definition of a democracy is not voting for who one thinks is less bad. Democracy is voting for who one thinks is best for the job. Voting for the democratic candidate, no matter who it is, is a spit in the face of the left wing ideals this country was supposedly founded upon.
Funding Genocides
What spurred this conversation was the Biden administrations response to the apparent genocide in Palestine. As a whole new generation learns about the genocide of Palestinians, the Biden administration was caught red handed funding the travesty. This has spurred political tensions and raised questions on not only the legitimacy of the Biden administration, but the effectiveness of the democratic party at leading the nation.
“The United States already provides Israel more than $3 billion in military assistance every year, and Mr. Blinken said that much of the equipment from that funding is already ‘in the pipeline’ to be sent to Israel,” according to the New York Times.
The Dangers of a ‘Harm Reduction’ Vote
The democratic party has failed time and time again to serve the interests of the people. They run on progressive platforms but fail to take any real actions. The Democrat‘s platform has essentially become “We aren’t the Republicans.” Not being actively racist isn’t a platform. The democratic party shouldn’t be saying things like “If you don’t vote for me, you ain’t Black,” as joe Biden did during his 2020 campaign.
However, this seems to be the attitude of the democratic establishment. A vote for “harm reduction” is not a vote for democracy. It’s time that the white liberals of the world understand that not everyone will let it slide when a liberal president funds a genocide. Ultimately, “Vote blue no matter who” is a dangerous slogan that actively argues that people not hold their elected officials accountable.
Furthermore, it forces marginalized people to vote for politicians that are harming their communities. Democracy should never be about coercing the populace into power. Democracy should be about electing who would be best for the job. Presidents who fund genocides and lie about progressive platforms aren’t fit for the job.
