The Rally Shooting
Jackson County Prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, announced on Tuesday that two individuals have been charged with murder, as well as other felonies, for their involvement in the mass shooting attack that occurred following a Kansas City Chiefs championship rally last week.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Dominic M. Miller of Kansas City, and Lyndell Mays of Raytown, were each charged with two counts of armed criminal attack, unlawful use of a weapon, and second-degree murder. They have a $1 million bail being held for them.

The inquiry stated that when a verbal altercation with someone else got heated. Peters Baker said that Mays was the one who got into the fight at the gathering and pulled out a revolver and shot the first shot. Miller and the others pulled their guns out almost instantly, which sparked the gunfight, according to Baker.
Prior hand, the two had never met before that day, she added. Since the incident, both defendants have been admitted to the hospital and are being held in custody.
Miller’s gun was the one that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan. A mother of two and local radio personality and DJ, even though they were both charged with murder.
An exuberant day of celebration for the back-to-back Super Bowl champions was tragically ended by the shooting at Union Station.
Making a Difference with gun violence
According to Baker, these defendants are not the same two teens who are being held in secure custody at the Juvenile Detention Center on allegations of possessing a firearm and resisting arrest. There could be more arrests, according to authorities.

A week has passed since the horrific incident that claimed Lopez-Galvan’s life and injured over 20 people, including around a dozen children. The Gun Violence Archive, which, like CNN, counts mass shootings in which four or more people are shot but not the offender, indicates that this incident was at least the 48th mass shooting in the United States in 2024.
Jail Time
Last week, prior to the arrest of Miller and Mays, two juveniles were charged with possessing a firearm, attack on innocents, and resisting arrest. Detectives discovered the shootout at the parade started because of Millers and Mays.
Following the incident, three people were first held, according to police last Wednesday. However, one of them was later “determined to not be involved.” The charged two males were both shot and injured in the course of the incident.
Making a Change
The family of Lopez Galvan expressed gratitude for the two suspects’ arrests in a statement.
“Though it does not bring back our beloved Lisa, it is comforting to know that the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and the KCPD made it a top priority to seek justice for Lisa, the other shooting victims, those who had to witness this tragedy unfold and the Kansas City community,” the statement read, according to CBS, the BBC’s U.S. affiliate.
“We seek to hold every shooter accountable for their actions on that day – every single one,” she stated. “So while we’re not there yet on every single individual, we’re going to get there.”
The ages of the 22 injured parties in the event varied from eight to 47, according to Kansas City police. Among those injured was one of the two persons indicted in connection with the crime.
In recent memory, there have been multiple shootings at sporting events around the United States. Ten individuals were injured in a shooting at an event honoring the NBA franchise Denver Nuggets in June of last year.
