“Rogue towing” usually refers to the practice of towing automobiles without sufficient authority or in breach of regulations. This is an issue happening all over the U.S. including here in Chicago. Local news station, CBS 2, reported they had learned that one person could be behind multiple scheming tow truck companies. Something that could be done by simply rebranding the company over and over again.
After listening to police scanners, these companies show up to tow the car involved for an exorbitant fee. Illinois Secretary of State’s Office to Mikel Warren seems to be a person who has utilized the rebranding a tow company he owns. Something he has done at least four times. The company names have been: Tow Pros Inc., Tows R Us Inc., Take Me Home Towing, and Perfect Time Towing.
Unauthorized Towing
Rogue towing businesses may transport vehicles without sufficient consent from the vehicle owner or without according to legal processes. This could include towing vehicles from private property without the owner’s permission or from public streets without legal authorization or reason.
Some rogue towing businesses engage in predatory methods, such as monitoring parking lots and towing automobiles right away once parking violations occur, often without providing the vehicle owner an opportunity to correct the problem
