This month marks the first day of Women’s History Month and it’s important to acknowledge those who have contributed in any way. Through being mother’s and raising households mother’s are the first to be acknowledged. On top of that we have legendary female athletes to female inventors. It’s hard to deny a women’s place in society. All these contributions through history need to be recognized, because without them we wouldn’t have certain things we enjoy now.
Women in Art
In genre’s such as art, women have made huge contributions. We can remember paintings like the Mona Lisa which are now considered legendary. This is due to women not being represented much during this time. The Mona Lisa painting encouraged girls and ladies across the world. This painting is still considered huge today, because of the beautiful depiction of this woman.
We have also made big contributions to music. This includes people like Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot. They have influenced the music we listen to and have even brought us females artist such as Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Kelly Rowland. All of these women are considered some of the best in the music game. Some even call them queens. They have all broken records and are even the face of their genres of music.
Other forms of art, such as literature, have also had big female influence. Poet’s such as Maya Angelou, and authors such as J.K. Rowling have been so influential that almost the whole world has heard of them. Angelou’s poems are still relevant to this day. They are still taught in schools, they are portrayed through other art forms such as music and can be seen on many platforms. J.K. Rowling is also known world-wide for her “Harry Potter” series and is also known for her rough upbringing. Without these talented women we wouldn’t have such strong and influential pieces of art and expression.
Women in Media
Women have also had a huge influence in media, aside from music artist in the media we have had other big influences. When it comes to TV we’ve had talk show host such as Queen Latifah, Oprah, and Wendy Williams.
Oprah is an icon and is known for working with really big people. On top of her having her own talk show for years she is known to do and talk about a little of everything on the show. Wendy Williams has a history of being a public talker as she was know as a radio host before her talk show. Even though she is mostly known for drama she has influenced the culture of blogs and tea pages. She is part of the contribution to making drama marketable.
Then you have women like Queen Latifah who used her talk show as a way to get into more television. She has also become popular for acting. She is very popular for her role as Cleo in the movie ‘Set It Off’. Other very influential ladies also starred in this movie, such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Vivica A. Fox and Kimberly Elise.
Jada Pinkett Smith is very well known for her husband and also multiple roles in shows like ‘It’s a Different World’ and ‘Boyz N Da Hood’. Kimberly Elise has been in movies representing struggles that women go through like ‘For Colored Girls’. Vivica A. Fox has also been in some legendary roles such as ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Two Can Play That Game’.
All of these women have worked together and on their own and are widely known for their acting talents. They have gave us multiple classic movies and are still working.

Who Makes Change in My Life?
For me, personally, my mom is a big influence in my life. She has worked in clinics and has done health care related things since I was in Kindergarten. One thing I admire about her, most is her composure. While in our current building there are a lot of addictions and a lot of OD’s.
Since my mom is the most experienced and educated on it, there have been multiple times where she has been called to save lives. There are a lot of times where I have watched her saved lives. Although everyone can’t be helped or saved and some people still have unfortunate situations after, I have never seen this make my mom weak or back down. To a lot of people these situations can be scary and they’ll freeze up but I have never seen my mom not take action.
These can be hard sights to see and I’ve seen my mom be strong through every situation. It can also be hard to stand in the face of death and have so much of it around you, but my mom has always been happy to help somebody even if they can’t help themselves after. Because of this, my mom is a very important person in our community and she is my personal woman I’ve seen make change!
