Applications for a Chicago pilot program will open later this month. The program will pay 5,000 Chicagoans $500-per-month for up to a year.
The Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot Program will be one of the largest cash-assistance monthly payouts in the nation, according to Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
I remain committed to making an equitable recovery from the pandemic to stabilize and ensure the well-being of all residents. The Chicago Resilient Communities pilot is a way for us to efficiently support the communities and households that were hardest hit by the pandemic with dignity as well as to build on our work to eradicate poverty.
Applications to be considered for the $31.5 million assistance pilot will open on April 25 at 9 a.m. and close on May 13 at 11:59 p.m. Assistance with the application will be available online via chat, in-person, and over the phone.
Program Eligibility
- live in Chicago
- must be at least 18 years old
- experienced economic hardship due to COVID
- household income must be at least 250 percent below the Federal Poverty Line
Only one applicant per household.
Confirmed eligible applicants will be entered into a lottery, however, the lottery will give heavier weight to those living in communities with pre-existing hardships.
