Who Is Kanye West?
Kanye Omari West (born June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia), also known as ‘Ye’, is a Grammy award-winning American rapper, producer, singer, author, and fashion designer. In the early 1990s, he started rapping and producing beats in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. This was around the same time he formed the rap group Go Getters with Chicago natives GLC and Really Doe. After moving to New York, he started producing music for stars like Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Twista, Mase, and Talib Kweli, which led to his eventual rise to national prominence.
Atlanta, Georgia, is where West was born. As stated in Hey Mama, he went to Chicago, Illinois, with his mother when his parents split when he was three years old. One of the first black photojournalists at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ray West’s father was a Black Panther before becoming a Christian counselor.
Dr. Donda West, Kanye’s late mother, held positions as chair of the English department at Chicago State University and professor of English at Clark Atlanta University until she retired to become her son’s manager. Later, after moving to Chicago, he was reared in an upper middle class home and attended Polaris High School. He attended school in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn, Illinois.
Of late, Kanye West has been accused of brutalizing children and students of Donda Academy.
Why Did Phillips Sue?
Kanye West is facing yet another lawsuit. This time, by a former Yeezy and Donda Academy employee who says that West had strange ambitions for the students there and even asserts that racism and anti-Semitism were prevalent themes in the academy. According to Phillips, Kanye West has been brutalizing children at Donda Academy.
Trevor Phillips argues that Ye threatened to punch him during a “temper tantrum” and gave preferential treatment to white employees. He also claims that Kanye West wanted to install a jail to “cage” students, according to a new lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone. Phillips joined several other former workers who are suing the 46-year-old on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The 42-page complaint provides an intimate glimpse into Phillips’s experience of working for the self-described “genius.”
At the height of West’s anti-Semitic tirade, according to Phillips’ lawsuit, he joined the Yeezy group in 2022. It describes how he came to be in charge of expanding cotton production for Kanye West’s clothing brand. As a consequence of Kanye’s outbursts, according to Phillips, he was soon managing Ye’s Donda Academy school in addition to his original responsibilities. Additionally, Phillips asserts that Kanye discussed his antisemitic beliefs with staff and students at Donda Academy.

Phillips claims that at one particular gathering, Ye made an announcement in front of two youngsters while using antisemitic language. He threatened to put pupils in cages under his suggested proposal. He wanted to shave their hair and build a jail at the school.
Additionally, Phillips claims that Kanye West had a history of berating and intimidating Black workers at Donda, including himself. Finally, he claims that during a Sunday service in May 2023, Kanye fired him on the spur of the moment. Kanye objected to the garden being on display during the service, which is why it happened. Phillips is suing Kanye on a number of grounds, including hostile work environment, harassment, and discrimination. He is requesting punitive damages in a sum not yet disclosed.
Phillips’ Experience
A former employee accused Kanye West of anti-Black racism and brutalization at Kanye’s school in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday. He also claimed that he had witnessed West’s homophobic and antisemitic outbursts. The employee, Trevor Phillips, who is black, alleged that West had scolded him and humiliated him in front of others. He stated that several employees noted that West treated black employees worse than white ones. “During his tenure, Phillips never witnessed West yell and berate a white person, but on countless occasions he saw and/or personally experienced Kanye frenziedly yell at Black people,” the lawsuit states.
Phillips worked for West’s private school, Donda Academy, in addition to Yeezy, the fashion brand, which hired him in November 2022. The complaint claims that part of his job required overseeing a project that involves growing cotton and other crops in order to develop a self-sustaining community.
After making a number of antisemitic comments on Twitter and in interviews, West’s career was at that point in free fall. The previous month, Adidas had canceled a big contract with him.
Philips was there when Ye said things like “the jews are out to get me.” He also witnessed Ye saying “the Jews are stealing all my money,” according to the suit. West asked Phillips to a meeting at the Nobu hotel in Malibu shortly after he was hired. Here, the lawsuit claims, West declared he detested Jews and praised Hitler. Additionally, he said, according to the lawsuit, that “Jews are working with Adidas to freeze up my money.”
Details
West allegedly insisted that “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, be shown to hotel workers. adding that, with the volume at zero, he and Phillips watched the film. According to the lawsuit, while the video was playing, West allegedly laid flat on his back on the bed, imitating masturbation and talking about conducting orgies. The suit recounts other alleged discriminatory behavior over the ensuing weeks. It includes a claim that West ordered a black security guard to shave his dreadlocks or be fired.
Donda Academy has since closed. However, there have been discussions about a possible reopening an injunction to prevent West from owning and running a school is sought in the case.
