The Woman Who Caused the Incident
A woman suspected of driving erratically crashed into a birthday party for a young child on Saturday, killing her and injuring several others. Included as injured were the child’s brother and sister, according to a Michigan sheriff.
The incident occurred at an auto body shop in Swan Creek, Monroe County, Michigan. The Monroe County sheriff’s office reported the incident. The accident, which occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m., resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl and the injury of her 5-year-old brother, according to the sheriff.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, is believed to have been driving erratically when she drove into the birthday party, which was held in a boat club about 25 feet from the building.
The first responders described the scene as chaotic, with intense emotions among first responders, first responders, and people who witnessed the incident.

A Michigan woman was convicted Tuesday of second-degree murder. And other charges after prosecutors said she drove her van drunk into a boat club hosting a child’s birthday party. Killing a young brother and sister and injuring several others.
Marshella Chidester. 66, pleaded not guilty to eight charges he faced in Saturday’s tragic accident at the Swan Boat Club in Monroe County, about 50 miles south of Detroit.

If Chidester posts bond, he must forfeit his passport, be alcohol-free, wear a seat belt and not drive. A probable cause conference is scheduled for April 30, followed by a preliminary hearing on May 6.
