Fans have been waiting for over 30 years for it, and “Beetlejuice 2” is finally happening. The long-awaited film is set to premiere on September 2024. Yesterday, Warner Bros. confirmed the Tim Burton sequel is truly in the works.
The “Ghost with the Most” sequel has been one of the most talked about and rumor-generated movie possibilities for several years. Furthermore, the movie will have a few of the original stars returning.
Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice himself, and Winona Ryder, Lydia Deetz, will be reprising their characters. Actress Jenna Ortega will be playing Ryder’s daughter. Recently, Ortega has made her mark in “Wednesday” and “Scream VI.”
Original ‘Beetlejuice’
Some fans have speculated on whether Geena Davis and Catherine O’Hara will be in the “Beetlejuice” sequel. Alec Baldwin also played a role in the original, however, it is unclear if he will be asked to bring his character again.
In the original movie, the spirits of a deceased couple (Davis and Baldwin) are harassed by an unbearable family (the Deetz). The Deetz’s move into the spirit’s home and they hire a malicious spirit to drive them out. The only way Keaton’s character is able to enter the “real world” is if someone says his name Beetlejuice three times.
Keaton, Davis, Baldwin, O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Glenn Shadix entertained fans in the original movie. The film even had some toe-tapping songs like “Banana Boat (Day-O)” and “Jump In the Line.”
Fans on Social Media
People hit up social media once news broke about the sequel actually coming to the big screen. Fans said things like “IT’S SHOWTIME!,” and “About dam time.” When they heard about Ortega playing Ryder’s daughter they said things like, “If anyone would stick true to this gothic character it’s her.”
In addition, “Beetlejuice” was such a hit that they made it into a cartoon and recently a play. Currently, it is unclear if the ongoing writers’ strike will affect the sequel’s potential production timeline or release schedule.
As of right now, “Beetlejuice 2” is set to hit the big screens on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.
