It is safe to say that the impact of social media is extremely large. Social media is filled with both negativity and positivity. However, social media apps, such as TikTok and Instagram, are based off of algorithms based on what users watch.
Therefore, if people are liking and viewing negative content, they will continue receiving negative content in their algorithm. This is something that can be extremely detrimental, especially on the youth. The brain of the youth is subject to withholding the negativity that they witness. Subsequently, that causes them to disperse that negativity to those around them, often worse.
Florida Passes Bill That Restricts Social Media from Youth
The Florida House has officially passed a bill that prohibits youth 16 and under from having access to any type of social media. Whether or not this will be positive or negative is something that will have to be found out within the near future. However, it is safe to say that many are most likely going to be against this bill, as they feel it is a restriction of freedom. Others agree that 16 is an unreasonable age, and it should be lowered,
On the contrary, there are people that are certainly in favor of this new bill and would do anything to ensure that it becomes law. Many agree that there is a large amount of negativity that surround these popular applications. However, others argue that there are plenty of opportunities and benefits that come along with social media, which are being ignored by certain legislators. Therefore, this argument can certainly go both ways, and it will certainly be revealed if this bill passes from the Senate.
The Future of Social Media
Whether or not the youth will like this particular rule, is not something that could be up for discussion if it becomes law. However, this may certainly anger many youths, in which this may cause them to begin to protest the law. However, it is still in the hands of the Senate, whether or not this will become the law or not. The future of the decision they make may certainly be a disastrous one.
