During Black History month 2022, St. Agatha Catholic Church, YouTv1, and the Chicago Leader newspaper will co-host a two-day telethon at St. Agatha located at 3147 W. Douglass Blvd. The “Chicago Youth Matters Telethon” will address the tragic and frightening senseless deaths of youth and young adults in our communities.
Televised fundraising telethons like the “Chicago Youth Matters Telethon” have been hosted nationwide since the early 1950s. The oldest annual telethon in the United States on the same channel is broadcast in Green Bay, Wisconsin on WBAY-TV. The “CP Telethon” helps provide financial support for equipment for Cerebral Palsy, Inc. It started as a 22-hour event on the first weekend of March 1954. WBAY Channel 2 has presented the telethon for the past 67 years.
The “Chicago Youth Matters Telethon” is no different. Hosts and facilitators have an entertaining two-day event planned that includes a boxing exhibition put on by Derrick Brown of Boxing Out Negativity and hours of live performances by Chicagoland artists. Look out for promotional flyers, posters, billboards, and commercials for the dates and times of this great fundraising event.
Funds raised from the telethon will be used toward YouTv1 and the Chicago Leader.
