How did the Riot Start?
On April 18, 2023, there was a riot between teenagers fighting police officers in downtown Chicago. The youth started to cause trouble with police officers and started to damage things by the lakefront.
What All Did the Youth Do?
The teenagers started to blast music all around areas downtown and made a huge crowd come together. They started to plan on being violent at a specific time at night. The situation continued overnight. Everything was out of control. The officers couldn’t really stop the teens. There were dozens of teenagers being harmed and other teens that are being harmful to others.
Where the violence begins
For instance, young individuals not only fight the police officers off, but they were fighting each other as well. It’s got so bad that some teens were really hurt. There were a lot of chaotic things that happen that night downtown. They were also looted and stole all kinds of things down there without anyone stopping them.
More violence
The youth was smashing car windows and jumping on other people’s vehicles, being very outrageous for their age. There was a certain point where guns were involved in that particular situation.
Random Attacks at the Riot

Bullets were fired all around, including across the streets where some teenagers were. They’re the young adults who not only beat other teenagers but also put an older male in a hospital by beating him badly.
These cruel crimes can lead to danger for them, including the people they are hurting. These crimes are unacceptable because they trashed the city and did brutal stuff to the residents.
The Started ‘Trend’
There were two young teens who were shot during the riots that happened downtown. One specifically was a 14-year-old boy got shot while being at the riot and in fair condition. Unfortunately, some thought the riot was going to be a “trend.”
The Weapons They Used During the Riot
They used weapons like pipes, baseball bats, and much more to either break or crack certain things during the downtown riot. Individuals were unsure if it was unsafe for those who didn’t participate in the teens’ violent activities. The police tried to do their best to protect the ones who had nothing to do with the riot.
The Viral ‘Trend’
Teens posted videos about the riots all around social media to show others around the world what had happened that night. Eventually, others tagged along when people were promoting their videos and pictures. They wanted to tag others along with their supposed “trend.” The teens were breaking the law during the cruel, unfortunate riots they did downtown.
The Youth Took Over
The teens took over all around downtown. The officers arrested half adults (older teens) and half of the youth involved in the riot. There were several police cars out there. The officers tried to do their duty, but it seems like the teens were already out of control.
Who’s Responsible for This?
The destruction that they caused, cost parents to become involved. And they’ve had to deal with that chaos and had no choice but to take full responsibility.
