Torrential downpours caused roadways to flood in Florida on Friday. While responding to stranded motorists’ calls, Deputy William Hollingsworth witnessed a person go under the water. Immediately, the Florida deputy jumped into action to help save the man. However, this led to him being sucked into the drainage pipe.
Florida Deputy’s Bodycam Footage
The officer’s bodycam caught the terrifying moments as it unfolded. Deputy Hollingsworth ran to where the civilian had been dragged under. He slowly waded into the water as the rain poured down on him. As he approached the area, he saw the man go under. The deputy dipped a little in hopes of pulling the man out.
Within moments, the camera footage goes black, and it sounded like static. Roughly a minute later, the camera shows the picture again and the gasps of the Florida officer can be heard. He then calls out to the man he had tried to pull out, asking if he was alright.
Seconds later, the deputy is close enough for the camera to capture the man clinging to some solid ground. The Florida officer quickly swims up to the man, both are still heard gasping for air and catching their breath.
Praising God
The video captures the man saying yes he was okay. Deputy Hollingsworth then starts praising and thanking God they were still alive. Then, the duo stand on the small piece of land looking around then and towards the roadway.
The man and the Florida deputy then decide to make their way to the road. Deputy Hollingsworth tells the man they need to be cautious and that they should hold hands just in case. Shortly after making it to the other side, additional officers arrive.
The Florida deputy regales the terrifying experience he and the civilian just had. Gratitude can be seen on the man’s face as he thanks the officer for helping.
