My Mom
There are plenty of women that have made a difference in my life. Just as many kids say their mothers make a difference in their life, mine does too. My mom was born in 1982 and migrated from Mexico to the United States. The reason she left was that the U.S. held a better future for her.
It was much less violent than Mexico, had much more educational activities, and had much more opportunities for her. Since she’s been here she has had to go through a lot, when she first arrived she had no one here. She had no job, no house, and very few things. However, she was able to settle down and start her life here. She went to college while maintaining a job. She was then able to find a place that she would call home and had me.
I look up to her so much because every time I feel like I want to give up, I remember how much my mom had to go through in order for me to be here, and have all the things I have now. She makes a huge difference in my life because she is my mentor, she is the person that has given me so much wisdom. Every day, I learn something new from her, and every day she teaches me something valuable in life. Every day she makes a difference in the way I think and act.
I aspire to be like her, a strong hard working woman. I look up to her day by day and remember that I cannot give up, and that she will not be let down. I will succeed and make her proud.
Greta Thunberg, an inspirational woman
Greta Thunberg is one of many other women that make a difference in my life. She is a Swedish activist that speaks about Climate Change, how it’s a real thing and we have to stop it. She is 20 years old that has inspired millions of children and adults across the globe, one of them includes me.
Me watching her Documentary made me realize that I need to make a change in my day-to-day life. I knew climate change was real but never did anything about it until I saw her. She made me change the way I live. For example, she says that the first step to reducing climate change is by lowering your carbon footprint.

That is what I started to change, rather than taking 40-minute showers I now take 20-minute showers. Rather than turning the lights on during the day, I only turn them on once the sun has set.
Additionally, she has inspired me to become someone better. I’m sure she has inspired other women as well to do the same, but she has interested me in becoming an Environmental Engineer. She made me change what I want to do when I grow up. Because of her, I am now more interested in what we need to do to stop climate change.
Ellen Ochoa, an admirable woman
Along with other women, Ellen is another person that has made a difference in my life. She was an Astronaut that was on a 9-day mission in the space shuttle up in space. She is the first Hispanic Woman to become a former director. Growing up there was not a lot of women were in men-nominated fields or positions, however, she challenged those norms. Not only did she make a difference in my life because she is a female like me, but because she is Hispanic too. Ochoca made me realize that I can be like her, an astronaut or a girl in STEM. Not only that but she made me stronger and more confident in who I was. She made me realize that I can be someone great and successful when I grow up as well.
Although I have not met her, or other women that have made a difference in my life. They are so strong and powerful that just reading about them; makes me want to change. They are not the only women in my life that have made a difference, every woman I’ve met has, Each one is different, and always leaves me with something new to think about, and new advice that I can use to become a better person.
