The Covid-19 pandemic has hit the world very hard. Many people lost their jobs and loved ones. Nonetheless, the iOS App market is thriving more than ever.
Apple says their iOS apps now support over 2 million U.S. jobs. Since April of 2019, iOS apps have created over three hundred thousand jobs. The number of jobs in the U.S. has increased by 15 percent in the last year.
The fact that there is a boom in the iOS app economy is not surprising. When people are forced to remain inside, and away from others, the need for at-home entertainment has skyrocketed.
Additionally, apps have become more important in people’s daily lives every day. Many people rely on Uber or Lyft apps to catch a ride. People use banking apps to handle their finances and even use apps to purchase groceries or other items.
Apple themselves specified their role in helping new developers create on the app store. “As the app economy continues to grow, Apple is investing in educational programs and opportunities that help prepare learners of all ages for the app economy jobs of the future. With Swift Playgrounds, Everyone Can Code, and App Development with Swift, Apple gives anyone interested in learning to code the tools and guidance to get there.” However, Apple uses these jobs as a counterargument when asked about the cut it takes of app purchases and in-app purchases.
At the end of the day, the jobs created are an enormous relief for those who may have lost their job due to the pandemic, and hopefully, the number of jobs created will increase exponentially.
