Happy New Year! Welcome to the first Phalanx Family Services Pullout Section of the Chicago Leader of 2023! We hope that your new year is getting off to an exciting and prosperous start.
2023 is a truly significant year for us here at Phalanx Family Services as it marks our organization’s 20th anniversary. Look forward to the exciting things we have planned throughout the year to mark the occasion. We formed on July 1, 2003, with less than 5 programs and 20 employees. Now, we are an organization of over 70 employees presenting nearly 50 programs and services and 10 free annual community events.
Last month, we hosted several very successful holiday events, including our annual Holiday Coat & Tree Giveaways. These events provide us with cherished opportunities to reach those in need at a joyous, but for some, difficult time of year.
We also hosted “WinterFest”, our annual 2-day event providing fun activities for children and families during the holiday school break. With a carnival theme, we provided free food, raffles, games, and such popular fun activities including ice skating, face painting, rodeo, and build-a-bear booths.
A special thanks to my staff for all their efforts in making this event such a success. A very, very special thanks to Frito-Lay for the generous donation of snacks and chips for the event and our host site, Metcalfe Community Academy.
Though so much about our lives prior to the pandemic has gotten back to normal, COVID-19 is still very much a reality in our world and in our communities. With newly emerging variants, the need to get vaccinated and boosted is as important as ever, especially for those who are over 50 and/or have preexisting conditions.
We are still offering $50 gift card incentives for both. Let’s overcome doubts about the benefit of vaccinations and make 2023 a banner year for eradicating this public health threat from our communities.
