Dear Reader,
Thank you for your interest in the Phalanx Family Services pullout section of the Chicago Leader. We are excited about the opportunity this publication affords us to help you learn more about our organization and what we do.
I’d like to personally thank everyone in the community for supporting our 2nd Annual “Juneteenth: Freedom Day Celebration” on June 17th. We had free food, carnival rides, games, live music, free haircuts, COVID vaccinations, resources, free giveaways, and spectacular performances enjoyed by visitors numbering in the hundreds. We love giving back to the community and seeing everyone have so much fun.
Our community youth contributed tremendously to the success of that day. Our Creative Juice Youth Beat Making program presented original rap performances. Participants in our Youth Ambassadors program made a community Peace Pledge. And our new community garden, literally built from the ground up by participants in our youth horticulture program was dedicated in honor of my husband, Gladstone Sanders. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for a day of so many enjoyable activities and events.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to announce our upcoming 9th Annual Back-to-School Event on Saturday, July 30th. Like our Juneteenth event, we will have free food, rides, exhibitors & vendors, resources & services, school immunizations & COVID vaccinations, CityKey ID distribution, free haircuts, and tons of free school supplies for students of all ages, and so much more. We look forward to seeing you there!
And, lastly, a big thank you to Roseland Community Hospital for its ongoing support in providing vaccinations. We continue to encourage families to get vaccinated, get vaccinated, and get vaccinated, especially now that the youngest of our families are eligible. We can only defeat COVID-19 together.
