Hi, my name is Kenneth Mazerat. I am a political science major at DePaul and I am 19 years old. I enjoy reading, writing, and the arts. I graduated valedictorian at Urban prep west which is a school for only black boys. I had to wear a white collar white dress down shirt, a school-issued red tie, a black belt, black or brown socks, and black or brown dress shoes. There were even restrictions on the hairstyles I could have. My hair couldn’t be too long or unkempt. However, in my later years of high school, the hair rules were loosened up.
Highschool
In high school, I was interested in many things. Literary criticism, politics, particle physics, theoretical physics, history, philosophy, and more. However, I have always been fond of learning. I keep myself busy by reading or researching things that I find interesting. For example, two weeks ago I stayed up all night researching the difference between high-density lipoproteins and low-density lipoproteins.
Powerlifting
In my off time, I am also a powerlifter. I go to the gym four to five times per week and I try to get around 18 sets per muscle group per week. It can be difficult at times, however, once you fall in love with the process everything falls into place. I am someone that constantly sets new goals for himself. Not in the, I’m gonna maybe do this within the year kinda goal. I mentally commit to doing something and set time in my day to get that task done. My goal for powerlifting is a 225 bench, a 195lb body weight, a 315 squat, and a 405 deadlift.
College
Outside of that, I am a college student at DePaul University which is one of the best colleges in Chicago. Many people in my neighborhood don’t exactly make it to college, especially not prestigious ones like DePaul University. I have maintained a 3.0 GPA however this year’s goal is to reach and maintain a 3.5 GPA. I don’t really feel like going any higher than that when it comes to college GPA.
Ph.D.
My ultimate academic goal is to acquire a Ph.D. in political science before the age of 25. Attaining this goal will open up a lot of opportunities in the field of political science. I could become a teacher or even a political analyst, As you can see I am a very busy and active person and I intend to be even more active in the future. By the way, I am also the lead reporter at The News School.
