Marvel’s new movie “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” has been ruling at the box office since its release. The film has grossed close to $700 million after two weeks.

After a strong opening weekend, the Doctor Strange sequel managed to stay on top of the box office despite a huge drop. The movie was down -67%, amounting to $61 million in its second week. Doctor Strange 2 is not alone in this second-week drop and follows other films like “Black Widow” and “Spider-Man No Way Home.” Some news outlets like Deadline and Rotten Tomatoes have blamed the drop on bad word-of-mouth about the film. Moviegoers could have been waiting for the inevitable Disney+ release of the film. This has not been confirmed but would follow recent release behavior from the blockbuster studio.

Good Enough for a Rewatch?

Marvel’s MCU films have always had a tremendous amount of success at the box office. However, Doctor Strange is the newest entry in a line of films that seems to buck this trend. It is not the first film to have a significant drop in its second week. Both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Black Widow dropped almost 68% in their respective second-week runs. It did have a larger opening of $187 million showing promising popularity among fans. Even still, the demand may not be as much as it needed to be. Rick Roman told Deadline that many superhero fans are known for going out more than once for Marvel films.

The movie has to be loved and enjoyed enough to want to see it a second time. My moviegoers feel the film is not good enough to see again

Critics gave decent to favorable reviews like a B+ from CinemaScore. It is also reported that the film had -17% available seats. The times that got cut were during the day, known as matinee showings. They are normally cheaper than the main evening showings and the film suffered because they were fewer this time around.
