David James formed the band Modern Romance in 1981. After releasing two singles that went nowhere, Andy Kyriacou joined the struggling group.
Eight weeks after Kyriacou joined the band; Modern Romance charted with the record which would become their signature song “Everybody Salsa.”
The band had a string of hits starting with “Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey.” The song hit in the UK top ten.
“Nothing Ever Goes The Way You Plan” was released after that. The second half of the song was remixed, the single renamed and it was released. “Can You Move” hit Billboard reaching number 2 on the chart.
Modern Romance released “Cherry Pink and Apple Bloom White.” “Best Years Of Our Lives” was the highest charting UK single.
In 1983 Modern Romance released “High Life” and “Don’t Stop That Crazy Rhythm.” “Walking In The Rain” became the band’s last hit reaching the charts.
Modern Romance released in 1985 a cover of Baltimora’s “Tarzan Boy.” The single was released on Carrere in France and was distributed by Atlantic Records in the United States.
Modern Romance still performs with Andy Kyriacou still on lead vocals and is the only original member left. The new band includes Steve Etherington and went back into the studio re-recording “Tarzan Boy.”
The single was released as a Beatport Exclusive on May 27, 2019, with an official release date of June 3 on Sobel Nation Records distributed by Warner Brothers.
On June 1, the song which featured mixes by Billboard charting remixers Spin Sista, Joel Dickinson, E39, Joe Gillan, and Jose Jimenez opened at number 28 on the North American Dance Charts.
The band is also hitting the road playing in the UK Butlins ’80’s Weekender.
