The Pentagon has confirmed that Ukraine is permitted to use US-donated weapons against North Korean forces allied with Russia.

The Pentagon has described troops from the isolated communist state as “co-belligerents” in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine. Spokeswoman Sabrina Singh has verified intelligence reports indicating that a contingent of the 10,000 North Korean soldiers sent to Russia for training has been positioned nearer to the battlefront.

“We are increasingly worried about the potential deployment of Russian troops for combat purposes or to strengthen combat operations against Ukrainian forces in Kursk Oblast, which is near the Ukraine border.”

In response to whether Ukraine would face restrictions on using US weapons against North Korean forces. She stated: “If they engage in combat, they will be confronting Ukrainians defending their sovereign land. We have pledged our ongoing support to Ukraine with all necessary means.”

The US has eased restrictions on numerous weapons, permitting Kyiv’s forces to launch them onto Russian territory.

Nevertheless, Washington continues to impose constraints on the deployment of long-range Attacks missiles. It has also been instrumental in hindering the use of British Storm Shadow missiles in cross-border strikes.

Statements

The US initially estimated that only 3,000 North Koreans would be sent to fight alongside Russian forces. Joe Biden described their deployment as “very dangerous” on Monday while casting an early vote in the presidential election in Delaware.

Last week, Ukrainian military intelligence reported their deployment to the Russian border region of Kursk. Where Kyiv’s forces are holding a small area of territory.

The Pentagon declined to confirm if it had observed North Korean troop movements heading towards Kursk.

Earlier, NATO’s Secretary-General Mark Rutte seemed to confirm their deployment in the border region.

Following a meeting with a South Korean intelligence representative. Stated, “I can confirm that North Korean troops have been dispatched to Russia and that North Korean military units are now stationed in the Kursk region.”

Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, stated that Kyiv had been alerting about the deployment for weeks and criticized allies for not providing a robust response.

“The essence is to heed Ukraine’s warnings. The remedy is to remove restrictions on our long-range strikes against Russia immediately,” he posted on social media.

“The intensifying military collaboration between Russia and North Korea poses a risk to security in both the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions,”. Stated NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte to the press following discussions with a South Korean delegation regarding North Korean troop movements.

Other Inputs

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that Russia is transferring missile and nuclear programs to North Korea in exchange for soldiers from the DPRK. He emphasized that the increasing closeness between Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran highlights the global nature of the threats that NATO is preparing to confront.

Earlier, we reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had approved revisions to Russia’s nuclear doctrine. Under the new guidelines, Russia could deploy nuclear weapons in response to a large-scale drone attack or if a “non-nuclear state” launches an attack on Russia with support from a nuclear power.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that North Korea seeks to obtain advanced technology from Russia in exchange for sending its soldiers. These technologies reportedly include missile, nuclear, and other military-related advancements.

Korea

Kim Jong Un stated that North Korea will “inevitably support the Russian Federation’s policy to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against imperialist moves aimed at hegemony,”. According to KCNA.

North Korea has expressed support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, describing it as a defensive action against what both Moscow and Pyongyang. Viewed as NATO’s “reckless” eastward expansion and U.S.-led efforts to undermine Russia’s standing as a powerful state.

According to South Korean intelligence, approximately 13,000 North Korean soldiers are currently stationed in Russia. A figure that surpasses estimates from the US and the UK. This number may increase, as the US has updated its figures from last week’s estimate of 3,000 North Korean troops in Russia.

In addition to military personnel, North Korea has supplied Moscow with 11,000 containers of ammunition, which include approximately 2 million artillery rounds, since last year. Reported by a senior NATO official to CNN earlier this month.
