Dear Reader,
This summer, we presented a Juneteenth celebration and back-to-school event, two of our biggest free community events of the year. Along with an abundance of free food, games, and giveaways, two major highlights of our Juneteenth celebration were the Pledge for Peace made by community youth and the dedication of the Gladstone Sanders Memorial Garden.
This was a space that was literally transformed from a neglected alleyway to a beautifully tranquil greenspace by our youth participants. Our annual back-to-school event, funded in large part by 5th District Cook County Commissioner Deborah Sims, saw our biggest turnout ever for any of our community events. We are grateful that so many of you supported and joined us to make these events such a resounding success.

This month, we are excited to announce the grand opening of our brand-new Phalanx Family Services Youth S.T.E.M. Lab! This state-of-the-art space of learning and exploration features 3-D printing, laser engraving, laser cutting, and computerized sewing equipment and is the first of its kind housed in a social service agency on the Far South Side of Chicago.
With the technological skills afforded by being exposed to this machinery, the career and entrepreneurship possibilities are endless. We look forward to giving volumes of young people, who would not normally have this exposure, the opportunity to gain rich learning experiences that will give them a unique advantage in the technological world of today and tomorrow.
We invite you to enjoy this issue of the Phalanx Family Services Pullout Section and learn more about what we do. With so much to offer, we are certain you will find something of interest to benefit you and your family. Thank you for your interest in our programs and services. It will be our pleasure to serve you!
Sincerely,
Tina Sanders
