“I had not had a job for a long time, and my last one was only part-time in retail. But thanks to the program at Phalanx Family Services and Ms. Lenon, my career navigator, I got hired as a Transactions Specialist with Chase Bank. I wasn’t even going to apply. I thought why would they hire me with no experience? They offered on-the-job training and a great salary. I have been able to pay off my credit cards AND get a car. Keep trying, don’t count yourself out. Be open and be willing to put in the work!”

“What really made a difference for me is how responsive my case manager, Ms. Chatmon, was. I cannot tell you how many programs I’ve been in where I could never reach anybody. Here at Phalanx, I ALWAYS got a callback.”

“Before this program, I couldn’t see myself graduating high
school, let alone working and going to college. But my mentor, Megan, inspired me to see a future for myself and see things differently. Plus, I have a little sister that looks up to me. I didn’t want her to see me as a quitter or a failure. Now, I have skills for a career in construction, I’ve graduated high school. AND I’m applying for college!”

“My pastor died, my grandmamma died, my mamma died all in the same year. My mind was all over the place. I couldn’t concentrate, I couldn’t work. Ms. Freeman never pushed, she said just take your time. She showed up to my mama’s funeral. That made me not feel like I’m a number, I’m an actual person. She’s been with me through so much that’s been going on in my life, from me getting a job as a team lead at Meijer. I so appreciate her AND this program!”
