Two people were killed on Thursday night during a shooting in Chicago. Seven individuals were injured. The incident took place outside of the McDonald’s near North Side.
A witness states that he saw two females crawling on the ground as they looked for shelter. Others were seen laying on the street and sidewalk. Emergency personnel were also giving medical attention to others at the scene.
During a press conference on Friday, Superintendent for Chicago Police David Brown explained that a disagreement broke out between two parties near 10:41 p.m. Then, one person started shooting into the group.
Law enforcement does not know what started the dispute, Brown explained.
Suspect Caught and Arrested
Police followed the suspect to a train stop at the Chicago Transit Authority. They have been placed under arrest. Also arrested was someone who blocked authorities.
Brown said that a woman that was running from the group alongside the alleged shooter. She has been hospitalized after coming in contact with the third rail at the CTA train stop.
Law enforcement stated that surveillance tapes show that someone had given the shooter the weapon. However, police have not been able to determine the person identity. A gun was found at the scene, according to police.
Brown also explained that if the person who committed the crime does not have a firearm then this is a personal dispute that could start fights, but no one would be killed.
Law Enforcement Posted In Area

It was also said that law enforcement has stationed two continuous posts of police officers. They have also stationed a rotating post of police officers in the area. The incident happened in an area downtown that was crowded. The location is close to Loyola University Chicago and Chicago’s Magnificent Mile of historic structures and upscale shops.
Brown explained that there is a “gun crime crisis” that is still continuing in the city and throughout the U.S.
He also said that the officers have confiscated more firearms that were possessed illegally off of people in Chicago than they ever have before.
In 2020, law enforcement confiscated 11,400 firearms. More than 12,000 where taken in 2021. These numbers are both record-breaking. Also, they are currently on track to breaking the record from 2021.
Mayor’s Statement On The Incident
Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, described the shooting as “an outrageous act of violence.”
She said in a statement that is it not acceptable and awful that another tragedy happened because guns are in possession of those who do not care about peoples life value or themselves.
Also, Lightfoot said that their police department is working hard to make sure the people from the incident are held responsible. She explained that it is for the safety of everyone.
One of the two individuals murdered in the shooting was a father of two children. His girlfriend is also currently expecting twins, according to his family.
