Spelljammer is returning with a series of new books. It combines space travel with high fantasy for a popular experience. The three-volume set comes packaged in a slipcase with a double-sided map and a Dungeon Master’s Screen. The release date is set for August 16 but pre-orders are being taken by Amazon for $69.99.
“Spelljammer” was first released in 1989 and written by Jeff Grubb. This copy is still available in print.
The name of both books is “Spelljammer: Adventures in Space.” The books are named after the starships that are piloted by powerful wizards. The spelljammers are fancy, open-deck ships that use “distinctive wing-like sails to travel through space.” They can even travel through different planes of existence.
The first in the new series is titled “Spelljammers: An Adventure in Space, Astral Adeventure’s Guide.” It contains everything a Dungeon Master needs to run a campaign is included with six new options for playable characters. These are the six races covered in recent previously released material all in one book. It includes the industrious autognome, the bipedal hippo-like giff, the primate-like hadozee, the oozy plasmoids, astral elves, and the insectile thri-kreen.
The second book in the series is “Boo’s Astral Menagerie.” Boo is the miniature giant space hamster from the original “Baldur’s Gate” video game. The new monsters being released in this “Dungeons and Dragons” book include evil space clowns, vampirates, sentient comets, and space dragons.
The third book is “Light of Xaryxis.” This book takes place in Wildspace in the Astral Sea. This book contains 12 episodes that end in cliffhangers. It is not known what level characters will start or end at in this series.
The new collection of “Dungeons and Dragons” books are 64 pages each as opposed to the usual 250 pages.
