Ubers Verification System
Uber is launching a pilot program in Chicago, and 11 other cities, to ensure the safety of drivers by verifying riders on the app. The new feature will add a blue checkmark badge to rider’s profiles making it easier for drivers to identify verified riders. Majority of accounts will be automatically verified using existing information so users won’t need to do anything extra to become verified.
If you sign up for an account and it’s not verified right away, you can send a picture of your ID, like a drivers license or passport, to prove who you are. The system will keep your document safe and won’t show it to anyone else. also If this doesn’t work for some reason and your still not verified, you’ll need to send in your ID to get verified because there’s a confirmation that you have to pass face ID.
they ensure the safety of both drivers and riders by having them take a photograph of their license in the app to verify their ID. Our new advanced verification method, which includes face recognition for riders, plays a crucial role in this process. if riders choose not to upload an ID or do not possess one, they can still enjoy a seamless experience on our platform as we do not impose any restrictions in this regard. Furthermore, this verification process enables us to maintain a record of riders’ faces, enhancing overall security.
Will New Verification System Work?
during an interview Heather Childs, Uber’s chief trust and security officer, mentioned that the new festered drivers wanted for added safety on the platform doesn’t include a blue check mark to show verified driver identities. Drivers want to know more about the people who are entering and exiting their vehicle. they need to make sure that the people who use Uber are really who they say they are, and we want to let everyone know that Uber is not a safe place for people who want to hurt others. In the Austin community, a recent incident occurred where a ride-share driver sustained injuries while operating, highlighting the long-standing awareness among drivers regarding the potential hazards inherent in their peoples profession.
Last year in February, a driver was fatally shot and a passenger was injured in the Little Italy area of Chicago neighborhood. To verify unverified accounts users can upload a government-issued ID like a driver’s license or passport, which will be encrypted and not visible on their profile Heather highlights that numerous drivers have already fallen victim to shootings and murders, leaving their families in anguish.
Uber New System
The app already has the necessary software to confirm the identity of drivers through a selfie. The same technology can be used for passengers as well, which would discourage criminals from using the app. It would probably make them think twice before trying to target an innocent person trying to make a living.” says Uber has implemented various safety measures such as allowing riders to record audio during a ride and verifying riders using anonymous payment methods. The app is currently testing the rider verification program in 12 cities before a nationwide rollout.
Other cities piloting the new safety feature beginning Thursday include Detroit and St. Louis. Uber uses reliable databases from third-party sources to automatically authenticate accounts by cross-referencing information such as names and phone numbers. This process ensures the accuracy and security of user accounts on the platform. Those who are not verified can still order an Uber, according to Child. Additionally, drivers will be able to determine whether a person is verified or not when deciding whether to accept riders. Child stated, “It’s a good thing because drivers want the confidence that they will be safe when accepting rides.” Some individuals believe that Uber’s new system will not work effectively.
