The legendary singer and actress Whitney Houston died seven years ago on Feb. 11, 2012, after accidentally drowning in a hotel bathtub.
Despite being dead, Houston will soon be going on tour.
On May 19, 2019 BASE Hologram announced they have teamed up with the estate of Houston to produce a new show entitled “An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour.”
The Houston Estate also signed a deal with Primary Wave Publishing which will be releasing a new album from the late singer, and possibly a Vegas show and musical on Broadway.
Brian Becker, CEO of BASE Hologram released a statement saying “Whitney Houston was undoubtedly one of the greatest singers in the world, in any generation. Houston’s career was an inspiration to all musicians across generations and genres, and we are honored that Houston’s family trusts the legacy of her to our company.”
The new show will include a band which will perform live, singers singing backup and will feature master recordings.
Becker said that they had already started production of the show, and they plan on bringing it to fans in 2020.
Houston is not the first tour of a deceased artist made from holograms. Others include Buddy Holly, Frank Zappa, and Maria Callas.
It has been reported that the father of the late singer Amy Winehouse, who died from an alcohol overdose on July 23, 2011, at the age of 20 is also in talks for a hologram tour surrounding Winehouse.
Pat Houston, the “I Will Always Love You’s” sister-in-law told the New York Times that before Houston died, her name was tarnished. Nobody discussed her music, and all anybody talked about was her drug abuse. The public forgot how great of an artist she was.
Houston feels that the recent push of the late singer’s music will help to monetize her work and help fix her reputation.
Primary Wave’s communication’s vice president Catie Monck, said a new album by Houston would be released at the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020. The new work will contain partially of outtakes from her 1986 self-titled album.
