Justin Mohn, a 32-year-old Levittown man, has been accused of decapitating his father and documenting the brutality of his actions on YouTube. The video of his crime circulated on the YouTube platform for hours, with over 5,000 individuals accessing its material before it was removed. Fortunately, Mohn has been captured and is now being held without bond. He will also be facing charges of mistreatment of a corpse and other offenses.
Furthermore, the victim’s father, Michael F. Mohn, had been a federal employee for over 20 years. His father’s work is an important piece of information, since in the YouTube video that went online, Mohn described his father as a traitor to his country. He also reportedly began the video by identifying himself and reading from a written statement. Then, he proceeded to display what seemed to be a bloody head inside a transparent plastic bag on the YouTube site for everyone to see.
How the Grisly Discovery Unfolded
The next information are the horrifying set of events that led to the discovery and mutilated body of Michael F. Mohn. At 7 p.m. the Middletown Township police were dispatched after receiving a report of a deceased male. The prosecutor’s office said in a statement “The call to emergency dispatchers came from the victim’s wife. When officers arrived, they located the male deceased in the bathroom.”

Officers also stated that when arriving at the location Justin was not at the scene, he had left the area in his fathers vehicle. Moreover, when entering the home officers discover the two murder weapons a machete and large kitchen knife inside the bathtub. The affidavit described the condition in how the head of the victim was discovered, “Officers located the deceased male’s head inside of a plastic bag which was inside of a cooking pot in a first floor bedroom next to the bathroom.”
In addition, after the gruesome discover of Michael, Justin was detain not long after. After fleeing the home he drove for more than 100 miles and then made a stop at the Pennsylvania National Guard base where he broke in and took out a gun.
Shortly after 9:25 p.m. Tuesday Justin was taken into custody at the Fort Indiantown Gap base. He was able to be taken in without resistance.
Signs of Paranoia and Odd Behavior
Prior to the murder and posting of the YouTube video online, Justin’s ex-roommate reported in 2016 that Justin was experiencing paranoia and was certain that the government was “out to get him.” Davis Rebhan was Justin’s ex-roommate. They met in 2016 when they were assigned to be roommates at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
Rebhan stated, “Even back then he had very clear issues. He would always talk about how the government was out to get him, and it was always like these vague stories about it. He would never give specific examples.”
He would tell me these stories that always seemed exaggerated, so it was hard to take anything he was saying seriously or know what he was saying the truth about.
Moreover, Justin’s neighbors in Middletown Township also reported that he would exhibit strange activities throughout the neighborhood. The alternations were believed to begin some months before his father’s murder. As reported by the neighbors, despite the fact that he was not demonstrating violent behavior, it was nonetheless uncomfortable. One of the neighbors even phoned the police on him because of his strange conduct.
As stated by Bart DeHaven a neighbor,
He just started acting funny over the summer. I made a couple calls to the police department because he was sitting right there on that culvert thing and staring at my house constantly. I thought that’s kind of strange.
Extremely Devastating Case
The death of Michael has caused great sadness among those who knew him and were close to him. His case was particularly tragic because his own kid was responsible for his death.
The victims employer mentioned he was, “deeply saddened about the tragic death of our teammate Michael Mohn,” the Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District said in a written statement.
He served with our Geo-Environmental Section. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mohn family and we are focused on supporting our grieving employees at this time.
