Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, was mocked for her latest campaign advertisement. The ad said she was “cool” and delivered many jobs during the coronavirus. Riled-up Twitter users are backlashing against her. This is her first television ad.

Lightfoot uploaded the video on her social media accounts showing two friends taking a look at the news. They saw Lightfoot revealing a plan on creating thousands of jobs. One of the friends gets mad and shuts off the TV and asks what Lightfoot even does for the city. His friends said, “Given the mess, she was dealt, Lori is delivering.”

Afterward, he starts naming some of Lori’s accomplishments to him:

  • Corporate expansion’s Chicago rank is first.
  • Thompson Center’s relocation has Google making hundreds of new jobs.
  • It was reported that Chicago is the number one spot for the Best Big City in the United States again for the sixth year in a row.

He then rips open his jacket to reveal his “Stay Home, Save Lives” t-shirt, a phrase Lori Lightfoot said during the COVID-19 quarantine. The friends are then glad to receive a pizza delivered by Lightfoot at their front door.

The “Delivers Again” Ad

This other ad was based on two friends one named Felix and the other Oscar playing video games. Felix tells Oscar, “Lightfoot delivers? What about crime?”

“People don’t know. She’s delivering record spending for violence reduction, getting guns off the street, and more money for police, You know we didn’t get into this mess overnight.” Oscar said.

“Getting out of it takes time, and Lightfoot has a plan. Right?” Oscar added.

The scene switches the focus to Lightfoot on the phone and she said, “I couldn’t have said it better myself.” Oscar then asks her if she wants to play video games but the ad closes off by saying she needs to get back to helping the city.

What Are People Saying?

Viewers are saying that there actually is no plan for stopping crime. “I think it’s an attempt to say, we didn’t get into this overnight and we won’t get out of it overnight, but we have a plan and it’s (working),” Eric Adelstein, a media consultant said.

Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa for the 35th district tweeted, “Mayor Lightfoot has a new digital ad saying, ‘she delivers.’ She’s failed to deliver on her promises to re-open shuttered public mental health clinics, re-establish the Department of Environment, passing #BringChicagoHome to address homelessness, and more. Don’t believe the spin.”

A Twitter user who goes by Jianan Shi says, “Classic Lightfoot timing – releases political ad about how she delivers the day after she got her aldermanic allies to no-show a committee hearing on homelessness. Clearly not delivering on her promise to #BringChicagoHome”
